content editor: Yoshimi Kihara knitjapan.co.uk is dedicated to promoting Japanese knitting in the UK, and the rest of the English speaking world. The site exists to highlight all things to do with Japanese knitting. We will particularly focus on exhibitions in the UK which include work by Japanese knitters, and profile interesting new developments in Japan itself. Japanese knitters are welcome to submit information to us if they wish, and we will consider including information about them and their portfolio at knitjapan.co.uk. We cannot guarantee to include all submissions as we operate a loose editorial policy towards selecting which work to include on the site. There are certain charges which we make for this service, although, at our own discretion, these may sometimes be reduced or dropped altogether. Many knitters may not be aware of the highly developed knitting culture which exists in Japan. The range of specialist magazines (such as those published by Nihon Vogue), yarn companies, knitting schools, knitting circles, designers and galleries would probably astonish the average keen knitter in the UK. The quality of the work in Japan is sometimes of a very high standard, and it is fascinating to observe differences in emphasis and direction that stem from differing cultural traditions. We hope that knitjapan.co.uk will result in increased contact between Japanese knitters and their fellow enthusiasts outside Japan, and help generally to improve standards of design, concept and craftsmanship.
